Rocket Monkeys title cards

I forgot to add these to the portfolio soup.

My Portfolio

I've posted selected work from my time at Atomic Cartoons, plus earlier work I did to get hired at an animation studio. Most of it is from my stint as background designer on Rocket Monkeys. I love that show. Feel free to pull up a chair, sip on your favourite beverage and browse through the images.
Cheers!

Rocket Monkeys backgrounds

I was first hired at Atomic Cartoons in 2012 by Jamie Turner to do board pulls for Rocket Monkeys, Season 1. That task is when you take a pose from the storyboard of a character or prop and create something usable for the animation. I loved this show. I'm a huge fan of space ships, cars with big fins, one-eyed aliens, strange space guns and rivets.
Later, I was hired as a background designer seasons 2 and 3. I hadn't done anything like that before, except for my early portfolio work. Fortunately, they were desperate.
I was honoured, humbled and occasionally terrified to work under the tutelage of Jay Falconer. His design notes were always drawn on Post-Its. That's all he needed.
I sat by David Gagnon, the best character designer in the galaxy, and next to Indy Andres, prop designer extraordinaire. I was a sponge and tried to learn as much as I could from these two rock stars as well.
Thanks for hiring me, Jamie. I owe you a huge debt.

The Balloon Planet

Banarchy!

Bug Planet

Bug Chapel. Will Wally be forced into marrying a large evil sentient insect?

More RM BGs

There are a whole bunch of these.

Only Jay Falconer could think of a floating campfire.

Couldn't resist adding a Hang-In-There poster.

Hugland, the happy place where Wally tries to murder Gus.

Rocket Monkeys backgrounds

I seem to have a ridiculous amount of backgrounds for this show. I edited them down to around 100+. They are like my children, if my children were very warped and wonky and got pooped on a lot by monkeys. Anyway, it gives people an idea of what goes into a couple of seasons.

David Gagnon did the design for the King Killya statues.

Viva Las Venus!

Lord Peel's basement in his rocket banana. No resemblance
to Moria's Balrog hangout whatsoever.

This is the girl's washroom on the monkey ship.

This is what happens when a boy enters.
